Burlexploration: Defining Your Inheritance
Burlesque is used to challenge internalized and institutionalize oppression, to contest the social-political landscape, to evoke joy, and to embrace feminine wholeness. It celebrates all that women are capable of by exemplifying female liberation. Discover what the art of tease reveals about the legacy of women. This workshop will combine performance art for personal transformation, embodied story-telling, and radical authenticity to explore the individual and collective inheritance of women. Surface the stories you’ve been bequeathed, and re-author them through experiential activities, burlesque exercises, small group work and personal reflection.

Inheritance is rooted in neo-burlesque, but is not a cabaret. It is an ensemble theatrical work, but not a play. It is political, but not a protest. Inheritance is the new "Vagina Monologues" - providing an exalted space to reclaim the feminine experience and use the female body as a tool for empowerment.
Through modern dance, singing, visual arts, poetry and neo-burlesque, Inheritance challenges the most basic and pervasive assumptions about womanhood, power and the structure of humanity. It presents a world that embraces, understands and celebrates the experiences of women.
